27&28/09/08 - Highland Team Event (Inverness)

An impromptu Highland Team Event brought together 8 teams of keen squash players of varying standards to battle for the silverware at Inverness Squash & Tennis Club.

After a preliminary knockout event, the top four played for the 'Main trophy' and all others went into a 'Plate trophy'.  Both sections were constructed into a round robin affair which gave everyone a chance to play against other teams and players.

The young starlets from Inverness 'A' were the current holders of the trophy and went onto regain the prize with excellent performances, in all of their matches -  against Thurso (runners-up), Fort William and Forres.

Since seeing the youngsters perform in Orkney (all ages), last April, there has been a significant improvement in their standard of play, fitness and all-round court management - which can only be put down to their dedication and coaching, in the sport.  Congratulations and look forward to seeing them progress even further, in the very near future.

Elgin proved to be the stronger team in the Plate Trophy and managed to accumulate enough points to go away with silverware and fresh new polo tops, sporting the HISA logo.

All-in-all, an excellent, but tiring, weekend of squash and hopefully, there will be at least one more before the end of the season - with plenty notice!!!

Note - Hopefully, Mr G Lobban and Mr A Mackay attended the refereeing course on 30/09/08...!!! Are ye' hearin' me...??? School bhoy errors and all that.....
